Grafton Cup Odds 2013 – Destiny’s Kiss Favourite

July 10th, 2013

Destiny’s Kiss may have drawn a wide gate but the progressive stayer is still a narrow favourite in the 2013 Grafton Cup betting market for the race that will be run this Thursday.

The feature event of the Grafton Cup Carnival has drawn a capacity field of sixteen runners plus three emergencies for its 100th running with the connections of a number of the contenders holding Spring Carnival aspirations.

Joseph Pride-trained Destiny’s Kiss will be heading to the spring after working his way through the classes this season, which culminated in his impressive victory in the Listed Winter Cup (2400m) at Rosehill Gardens last Monday.

The Power of Destiny gelding will start the race from barrier fourteen, after the emergencies are removed, and will likely be ridden at the tail of the field.

Destiny’s Kiss may need a bit of luck getting around the tight Grafton circuit but will be very difficult to beat if he finds clear running in the straight.

Despite the concerns over the barrier he is the outright favourite in the 2013 Grafton Cup betting market at odds of $4.20.

Last start winner Zennista is on the second line of betting at Grafton Cup odds of $5 and has impressed since coming to Australia for the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival.

The New Zealand-trained mare finished third in both the Group 3 Premier’s Cup (2200m) and Group 2 Brisbane Cup (2400m) before breaking through for his maiden win in Australia in the Caloundra Cup (2400m).

Trainer Lisa Latta is hopeful that five-year-old can win the Grafton Cup and improve her chances of qualifying for the major cups during the spring.

Mr O’Ceirin is the only other horse in the field at single figure odds but a disastrous barrier draw was a major setback to his Grafton Cup chances.

The 2013 Caulfield Cup hopeful drew barrier nineteen at the very outside of the field and trainer Ciaron Maher questioned whether it was even worthwhile taking part in the race.

However, Maher has given Mr O’Ceirin the opportunity to atone from his disappointing performance in the Dominant Handicap (2040m) at Moonee Valley last month, where he started fifth after starting the race as favourite.

The Postponed gelding is currently available at Grafton Cup odds of $7.50.

Other leading Grafton Cup contenders include: Gai Waterhouse-trained Reuben Percival ($10) and 2012 Caloundra Cup winner Shenzhou Steeds ($12).
