Guy Pleased with Noisy Ocean Ahead of 2014 Grafton Cup

July 1st, 2014

Trainer Brian Guy is confident of success for Noisy Ocean in the featured 2014 Grafton Cup (2350m) on July 10th, having set the talented stayer on an interesting lead-up path after an unlucky second in the Listed Ipswich Cup (2100m) on June 14th.

With a good number of Noisy Ocean’s likely Grafton Cup rivals heading to the Listed Caloundra Cup (2400m) on the traditional path to Grafton last weekend, Guy elected to field the Shovhog gelding in a benchmark event over 1400 metres in a huge drop in class and distance; something that has worked wonders previously, Guy told AAP.

“We didn’t want to knock him around on a wet track over 2400 metres in the Caloundra Cup. He isn’t the type of horse who would have responded to that,” Guy said.

“If you look at his form you will see we have tried this before with him for great success.

Pleased with the form and skill displayed by Noisy Ocean over a long and busy current preparation, Guy said the five-year-olds record over similar races puts him in good stead for Saturday week’s feature race.

“He has won at 2030 metres and ran second to smart stayer Hi Son in a 2100 metre race at Doomben last preparation.

“I have no doubt he should have won that race.”

Claiming a total of eight wins and 10 minor places from 46 competitive race starts to date, Noisy Ocean returned to racing at the beginning of December and has since claimed three wins and two second placings from 11 proceeding starts.

Unlucky to be blocked for a run and finishing mid-pack in both the XXXX Gold BM90 (1600m) and Mittys BM90 (1800m) through May, the gelding out of Hepburn Rose was again hampered early in the final straight when second to Brave Ali in the Ipswich Cup, and led from start to finish in his most recent appearance on course last weekend.

A final field and barrier draw for the 2014 Grafton Cup is due to be released on Wednesday, July 9th.
